Your screen, shot like a film.
The #1 screen recorder for product demos, tutorials, onboarding, bug reports, sales videos, launch videos, courses, README GIFs, changelogs, social clips.product demos
Dolly records your screen and does the camera work for you. Smooth zooms, a cursor that glides, a frame that looks designed. Record once, share in seconds.
Click anything.
Dolly zooms in.
Auto zoom follows every click and keystroke. Keep it, nudge it, or drag your own.
Cursor
Your hand shakes. Your cursor won't.
Dolly redraws your cursor from scratch: smooth, sharp at any zoom, and exactly the size you want.
- Smooth movement, with three styles from calm to snappy
- 25 cursor sets, from macOS colours to Pixel and Candy
- Click sounds, or your own
- Double clicks merged, so it looks deliberate
Beautiful by default.
Every recording lands on a background, with padding and rounded corners.

Voice and camera
Put your face in the shot. Or don't.
Your camera, microphone and your Mac's sound, recorded in sync. Pick a bubble, side by side or screen only for each clip, and clean up your voice on your own Mac.

While you record
Say it right. Point it out.
A teleprompter right under your camera, and a pen to circle what matters while you talk. Neither one is burned into your video.
- Script ⇧⌘1Paste what you want to say. It scrolls at your pace, holds when you pause, and never shows up in the recording. Later, your script can become the captions, word for word.
- Draw ⇧⌘DPen, highlighter, arrow and box in five colours. Lines fade after a few seconds, and stay editable afterwards: move, recolour or remove them.
Transcript
Cut the video by deleting words.
Dolly writes down everything you say, on your own Mac. Select a few words and press ⌫: the video follows. One button removes the ums and the long pauses, and ⌘Z brings everything back.
- A title, a short summary and chapters, suggested on your Mac
- Captions that animate word by word, or an SRT file
- Search Home by what was said, not by file name
Quick Share
Stop. Paste. Done.
Press Stop and your video is already on the clipboard, sized for where it's going. Nothing is uploaded and there's no account: paste it into Slack, a GitHub issue or a post on X. From the editor, ⇧⌘E does the same.
- SlackUnder 50 MB, 1080pPaste it in any channel.
- GitHubUnder 10 MBDrops straight into an issue or PR.
- X1080p, ready to postSized for the timeline.
- Docs GIFUnder 10 MB GIFFor help centers and READMEs.
Or export a file in up to 4K at 60 fps, encoded on your Mac's media engine. Every export plays at streaming loudness, so a quiet laptop microphone sounds as loud as the next video in the feed.
Dolly links · Free during the beta
Stop, and the link is already copied.
Set After recording to Get link and one shortcut does it all: ⇧⌘2 stops, and the share link is on your clipboard in under a second while the video uploads behind it. Viewers get a calm page that plays as soon as it's ready.
- Comments at a moment in the video, no login for viewers
- Viewers can reply with a short video of their own
- Insights, comments and settings for every link, right in Dolly
- A password, an expiry date or a button of your own
Fewer clicks
From idea to link. Mostly one key.
Dolly remembers your last area and your last look, so the next take starts where the last one ended. The rest is on the keyboard.
Every format
Record once. Post everywhere.
Wide for YouTube, square for LinkedIn, tall for Reels and TikTok. In a tall video, Dolly fills the frame and follows the action: your clicks, your cursor, the text you type.
- Also export vertical: a second 9:16 file in the same run
- Captions and keys stay clear of where Reels and TikTok put their buttons
- Never upscaled: Dolly exports the detail your recording really holds
- MP4 up to 4K at 60 fps, 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 4:5, 3:4 or 9:16
Dolly Pro · Connect your AI
Your AI makes the video. With a voice-over.
Dolly Pro speaks MCP, the protocol AI assistants use to work with apps. Ask Claude or Cursor for explainer videos of your app: it writes the plan, and Dolly records, narrates, zooms and hands you a finished series. On your Mac, over a local connection.
Just ask your AI.
Connect Claude, Claude Code or Cursor once. Then say what you want, the way you would to a colleague. Each of these works today.
“Put my latest Dolly video as the first video on our website's home page.”
Web-ready files go into your site's public folder, and your AI puts the video at the top of the page.
“Replace the demo video in our README with a GIF of my last recording.”
A GIF in your repo, and the README points at it.
“Turn my last recording into a clickable demo and put it on our pricing page.”
A step-by-step demo folder, embedded on the page.
“Add my latest video to the changelog post for v2.3, with chapters.”
A title and chapters, then the video in the post with captions and chapter marks.
“Cut the ums and long pauses from my last video, add a title and chapters, and give me a link.”
Cleaned up by what was said, then a Dolly link.
“Make a vertical version of my last video with captions, ready for Reels and TikTok.”
A 9:16 copy that follows the action, with captions.
Use cases
One thing, done really well. Every screen video.
Dolly only does screen recording. That turns out to be the heart of most videos people make about software.

Questions
When can I use Dolly?
Now, on a Mac with Apple silicon. Windows follows.
macOS says Dolly can't be opened. What now?
Dolly isn't notarized by Apple yet, so macOS asks once. On macOS 15 or later, click Done, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway. On macOS 13 or 14, right-click Dolly in Applications and choose Open, then Open. You never do this again, not even after updates. Step-by-step install guide.
My recording is black.
Dolly needs screen recording permission. Switch Dolly on in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording, then quit and reopen Dolly. How to.
Does it work on Windows?
Not yet. The Windows recorder is in the works; the editor is already cross-platform.
Do my recordings leave my computer?
Only when you click Get link. Recording, editing and export happen on your own Mac. Get link uploads a web copy of that one video to make its link; nothing else leaves your Mac. How Dolly links work.
Can I share a link instead of a file?
Yes. Get link puts a short link on your clipboard right away; it plays as soon as the video is ready, on a clean page with comments, reactions, a transcript and chapters. You can add a password, an expiry date or a button. Dolly links are free during the beta.
Can I get a link the moment I stop?
Yes. Set After recording to Get link (or choose Stop and Get Link in the recording pill). ⇧⌘2 stops, and the share link is on your clipboard in under a second while the video uploads behind it. From the editor, ⇧⌘L does the same.
Can Dolly record my iPhone or iPad?
Not yet: it's coming soon. Recording an iPhone or iPad over a cable, in a phone or tablet frame, comes once it has been tested on real devices. More.
Can I edit a recording after the fact?
Everything stays editable: zooms, cursor, background, cuts and speed. Your raw recording is never changed.
Is there a time limit on the free plan?
No. Free records as long as you like, as often as you like, and exports up to 1440p. Coming from Loom's 5-minute limit? See Dolly as a free Loom alternative.
What does it cost?
Free to start, with no time limit and export up to 1440p. Lifetime is €5, once, removes the end card and adds 4K and GIF. Pro is €19, once, and lets your AI record and edit demos for you. Already on Lifetime? Upgrading to Pro costs €14. No subscription.
What does Pro add?
Connect your AI: Claude Desktop, Claude Code and Cursor can drive Dolly through MCP. Ask for explainer videos and your AI writes the plan while Dolly records a narrated, captioned series of your app; or ask for a demo and it records, cuts, zooms and exports. All on your Mac, with no extra AI or voice costs.
How can it be that cheap?
Recording, editing and export happen on your own computer, so there are no render servers to pay for and nothing to pass on to you. The only videos we host are the ones you share with Get link.
Roll camera.
Free to use, with no time limit. Everything for €5, once.
First time: open Dolly, click Done, then System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (macOS 13–14: right-click Dolly → Open). Once only. Installation help
